Burogloo was appointed architect alongside a client-established design and project development team, to take this challenging redevelopment project from planning permitted stage to completion. The project entailed converting existing office space to provide nine flats, including a duplex roof development, and involved the complete stripping out of all floors and internal structure, and installation of a new structural frame while retaining the existing external fabric.
The project was made challenging by virtue of the ground and lower ground floor restaurant tenant remaining in situ and the building being flanked on both sides by listed buildings. The project introduced new ways of approaching a single staircase residential development over five storeys above retail premises, and introduced modern ventilation solutions to the historic building and facades.
